SABMiller India, the wholly owned Subsidiary of SABMiller plc and India’s second largest brewer after United Breweries (UB), has announced the appointment of Paolo Lanzarotti as the new Managing Director of the company. Paolo Lanzarotti, who was heading so far the brewer’s operations in Slovakia, has taken over from Jean-Marc Delpon de Vaux who was previously heading the company’s operations in India and who has left a few months back.

Paolo’s key responsibilities will include overseeing the group’s operations, expansion and growth in the country and working towards building the SABMiller brands in the diverse and challenging Indian market, the company infomed. Paolo is no stranger to India, residing here between 2000 and 2003 initially in the role of CEO of IndoMobil Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between ExxonMobil and IOC and thereafter CEO of ExxonMobil Lubricants Pvt Ltd. Later in 2005 Paolo joined SABMiller in Italy as Strategic Planning Director and subsequently Sales and Distribution Director of the Birra Peroni business. In 2008, he moved to Slovakia as Managing Director of SABMiller’s operation there, Pivovary Topvar.

On the eve of his appointment as MD in India, Lanzarotti said that he would be excited and privileged to have been given this opportunity. "I am looking forward to building a leadership position here in India", he said. " Indian markets are in a very important stage of evolution", he stated and expressed his believe that the combination of SABMiller's international experience coupled with the passion and talent within the local business could be leveraged to continue the drive for focused growth.

Lanzarotti is a post graduate from Kings College, University of London and has completed his Masters from the Open University, England. He is married and has two children.

Lanzarotti moves into the fastest-growing but possibly also a difficult beer market, where several other brewers like Carlsberg have started business already and various others are trying to gain foodhold.
