Processed food major Vadilal has brought a full range of vegetables from India and has nicely arranged them in a display case at their anuga stall. Many visitors, some of them Indians who work abroad, enquire about quality and prices.

Vadilal processes a total of 5400 MT of 40 types of vegetables annually, of which more than 90% are exported to the US, as Mr. Modi from Vadilal Marketing told FoodIndustryIndia.com. Now the company has concrete plans to export its range of frozen vegetables also to Europe. The processing plant for the vegetables is in Gujarat just 200 km away from Mumbai. The company operates three cold storage facilities and is currently setting up a fourth one.

In India itself, Vadilal is well known for its ice cream, which is so far supplied only to the local market. “Vadilal makes ice cream since 1930”, Mr. Modi said. Vadilal has now identified UK to be the first export market for its ice cream and has already started the necessary processes which seems to involve also clearances according to the food laws of the EU.
